Light and Life gets new lead pastor

The rev. ralph jordan

Light and Life Community Church, 317 W. Embargo St., has welcomed a new lead pastor, the Rev. Ralph Jordan. The Free Methodist Church Genesis Conference approved the church board’s request to appoint the Free Methodist Church elder to the church full time. He previously had been associate pastor.

Born in Savannah, Georgia, Rev. Jordan attended Elementary school on Tybee Island, Ga.; middle school in Orlando, Fla. and high school in Wheatfield, Ind. He served in the Navy from 1970 to 1980 as an aviation electrician, then attended Moody Bible College in Chicago, Ill. graduating in 1983. He studied with Beeson Institute - Church Leadership from 2001-2006.

In 1983 he was licensed and ordained as a Southern Baptist pastor. He served as pastor of numerous churches in Georgia and South Carolina until 1995 when he moved into the area and was pastor of Beacon Light Baptist Church from 1996-2000.

In 2001 he became an elder in the Free Methodist Church and was appointed as an associate pastor of the Free Methodist Church now in Wampsville.

Rev. Jordan said, "I would like to see ... a church where everyone is known and you feel like you are part of one big family where you are loved, needed and wanted. Far too many in our area and beyond have no church they can really identify with. We want Light and life to become everyone’s church. A church that accepts you for who you are not for the type clothes you wear, a church that you feel like you are walking into the very heart of God’s love."

Rev. Jordan and his wife, Sandy, have two children, Troy and Jackie, and three grandchildren.

Light and Life has services at 9 a.m. and another at 11 a.m. which also has children’s church, child care and is generally signed for the hearing impaired.

Celebrate Recovery meets in the church Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.

The church phone number is 337-9743. The church is handicapped accessible and has expanded it’s parking with the acquisition of a second adjacent lot.

Former lead pastor Steve Mitchell has returned to corporate work but continues as an associate pastor.
