The city and Rome Clean & Green will hold a free tree-planting seminar at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. Residents are encouraged to help plant Rome’s future by planting a free tree they will receive at the seminar.
Photographer Sylvia de Swaan, a woman who survived the Holocaust as an infant, will discuss her experiences and the effects they still have on her in a free public program Tuesday in the Rome Free Academy library.

Heeley, curator of the Oriskany village museum, also was "very disappointed" that the village did not gain mention of its museum or the USS Oriskany Memorial scheduled to be complete by May 30.

(Jill) Bates, 906 Laurel St., whose volunteer activities have ranged from Scouting and Little League to the Association for Retarded Children and Birthright, has been selected Rome’s Woman of the Year for 1982. She is the wife of County Legislator Stanley P. Bates and the mother of eight children.
