Accused of leading law enforcers on a more than 100 mph chase from Rome to Annsville, a 21-year-old man was finally caught when law enforcers said his motorcycle crashed.
Bail was set at $500 Monday and has not been met for Jordani Cruz-Cotto, of 612 Liberty Gardens, who appeared before Judge John C. Gannon on charges of third-degree unlawfully fleeing police, failure to obey police, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, unlicensed operator, passing in same lane, no insurance, no registration and speeding. His case was adjourned to April 30.
State police said at 9:17 p.m. April 14, Cruz-Cotto was spotted weaving around other vehicles on his motorcycle on Route 69, so a trooper tried to pull him over. Authorities said Cruz-Cotto refused to stop and sped up to 117 mph in a 55 mph zone along Route 69. The trooper gave chase with lights and sirens blaring.
Several times, authorities said Cruz-Cotto pulled over to the side of the road — only to speed up again when the officer pulled up behind him.
Authorities said the chase lasted all the way up to Taberg-Florence Road in Annsville, about 10 miles away from where it began. The pursuing trooper was ordered to abandon the chase, but authorities said Cruz’s motorcycle crashed only a few moments later.
The trooper witnessed the crash and took Cruz-Cotto into custody.
