The Rome Free Academy junior varsity baseball team banged out 16 hits to grab its first win of the year, 15-13, over Vernon-Verona-Sherrill on Monday at DeLutis Field.

Ian Hetherington and Matt Zakala had three hits each, while Bernie Adorino, Eddie Campos and Josh Reed belted two hits apiece.

Jarred Luczak, Justin Losowski and Tim Hickey all took the mound to claim the win.

RFA crushes Corcoran

In other junior varsity action, the RFA softball squad captured a 20-6 victory over Corcoran High of Syracuse.

Jenn Tasco recorded three hits, including a triple, and scored four runs. Alyssa Fazio picked up the win on the bump while striking out four in three innings of work.
