A Utica man is accused of attacking a police officer Friday night and tearing the officer’s badge off his uniform.

Police said Officer David Singe was patrolling in the area of Genesee and Oswego streets at about 10:20 p.m. when he came upon a man and woman fighting. Singe pulled over and told them to stop the scuffle. The woman was able to get away and flee, but police said the man, Steven Scott, 44, of Genesee Street, chased after her.

Scott tried to strike the fleeing woman, and Singe tried to take Scott into custody. Police said Scott started to hit Officer Singe and ripped the badge off his shirt.

Singe was able to pull out his Taser and shot Scott with the electrical charge, police stated. Scott then surrendered and was taken into custody. Police said Scott is charged with second-degree harassment, fourth-degree mischief, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to appear in City Court.
