DWI charged after woman’s car catches fire in Trenton

TOWN OF TRENTON — Where there is smoke there is fire, and where there was fire early this morning on Mapledale Road, there were also drunken driving charges for a 22-year-old woman.

Remsen-based state police said Robyn E. Owens, of Holland Patent, was westbound on Mapledale Road at about 3 a.m. when she had to pull off onto the shoulder because her vehicle had caught on fire. Troopers said the flames were caused by a mechanical malfunction in the vehicle.

The Holland Patent Fire Department doused the fire while state police discovered that Owens was intoxicated. Troopers said Owens registered a blood alcohol content of 0.18 percent, more than twice the legal threshold of 0.08 percent.

Owens is charged is aggravated driving while intoxicated, troopers said. She was released on an appearance ticket to Town Court for April 17.
