RFA boys lacrosse squad moves to 3-0

The Rome Free Academy boys lacrosse team extended its winning streak to three games to open up their season with Tuesday’s 13-8 home victory over Henninger High of Syracuse at the Stadium.

Dylan Sbarglia recorded an eye-popping six goals to lead the team offensively, while Devin Trifeletti had a three-goal hat trick and an assist, and Randy Linderman also added two goals as the Black Knights moved to 3-0 overall.

Drew Hinman scored a goal, Jake Gulla tallied two assists, and Tyler Nicalous, Nick Bonanza and Rich Stapleton each added an assist for the Romans.

RFA starting netminder RJ Ferrucci made 11 saves in between the pipes.

RFA falls to Central Square

The RFA Lady Black Knights dropped to 1-3 on the season following an 8-7 setback against visiting Central Square at Kost Field.

Rome senior Courtney Tasco belted a home run, while freshmen Alexandra Kimmel finished with a game-high three RBIs, Mary Resnach finished with a pair of RBIs, and Kaysie Gregory drove in a run for the hosts.

Autumn Swavely was hit with the loss on the hill. She struck out six through seven innings of work.

Kelsey Morgan picked up the win on the mound for Central Square, which moved to 2-0 overall with the win.

Win for Lady Redskins

The Oriskany softball squad came up with a triumphant 11-3 victory over visiting Westmoreland on Tuesday in a Center State Conference crossover game.

Shannon VanShufflin was 2-for-5 with three RBIs for the Lady Redskins, while Ashley Rueger had a hit and scored four times. Jordan Sahl singled and scored a run, Brandi Zizzi had a two-run single and scored three times, and Danielle Manna recorded a single and scored three times.

Westmoreland’s Nikki Dardano tripled in the third inning and scored on a passed ball, and Brandi Spada had a RBI double to score Cristina Rondenilli in the seventh inning. Matti Fredsell’s groundout also scored Krista Pietruch in the seventh.

Sahl picked up the complete game win for Oriskany and allowed four hits, as Westmoreland’s Gabby Tarverne took the loss. Tarverne pitched four innings allowed five earned runs off six hits and walked seven.

RFA girls drop opener

The RFA girls golf team opened up its season with a loss to host Fayetteville-Manlius, 184-218, at Green lakes.

Lillith Bulawa shot a 46 on the par 36 course to lead RFA, while Lauren Felice hit a 51 and Andrea Eastup chipped in a 58.

Camden girls lose

The Camden girls track and field squad suffered an 89-48 loss to visiting Sauquoit Valley.

Amanda Relyea scored wins for Camden in the long jump and triple jump.
