Wrong-way crash on Rte. 49
MARCY — A 63-year-old woman was driving the wrong way in the eastbound lane of Route 49 Sunday evening, leading to a two-car collision.
State police said Judith E. Shultes, of Berne in Albany County, drove up the exit ramp at Route 291 and was headed westbound in the eastbound lane at 6:20 p.m. when she collided with another vehicle only a short distance from the ramp.
The other driver, Kayliegh L. Caruso, 25, of Utica, was traveling in the proper direction, troopers said.
Both Shultes and Caruso were treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica for non-life threatening injuries. Hospital officials said Caruso was treated and released, and Shultes was transferred to the Albany Medical Center. Her condition was not immediately available this morning.
Troopers said Shultes received multiple vehicle and traffic tickets, and is scheduled to appear in Town Court.
