Area groups get grants from Komen for Cure

Susan G. Komen for the Cure Central New York Affiliate announced its list of 2012-13 grant recipients.

In November, Susan G. Komen-CNY requested applications from non-profit organizations seeking funding for breast health care projects across central New York.

Local grants were awarded to:

¿ Cancer Services Program of Oneida, Herkimer and Madison Counties, $30,000; and

¿ Lewis County Public Health Agency, Circle of Care Breast Cancer Navigation Program, $40,000.

Grants were to be awarded for projects designed to:

¿ Increase awareness of the availability of free and reduced-cost breast health services, particularly among under-served, under-insured and uninsured women;

¿ Include goals and methodologies to reach under-served women;

¿ Provide services to help patients navigate through the continuum of care to insure that they are screened, and that those with positive screening results receive appropriate follow-up diagnostic and treatment services.

"We were excited to receive so many excellent applications that addressed the needs of our constituents," Executive Director Kate Flannery said. "Our panel of experts had the difficult, but fulfilling task of choosing this year’s grant recipients."
