The Sheriff’s Office headquarters on Judd Road in Whitestown will be renamed the Dep. Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building.
Wyman was shot and killed June 7, 2011, during a standoff following a domestic disturbance in Knoxboro. He is the only county deputy to have been killed in the line of duty since the department was created in 1798.
"Our goal is do that at the one-year anniversary," said Sheriff Robert M. Maciol of the renaming when he met with county legislators recently.
New Letters will be hung over the doorway and a small plaque installed, he said.
Maciol said Wyman’s family was "extremely happy" with the gesture to recognize and honor Wyman.
A Marine Corps veteran, Wyman had served with the Sheriff’s Office for four years. He was 24 at the time of his death. He was born Feb. 19, 1987.
