Inmate in Trebilcock assault found with jailhouse shank
WHITESTOWN — The county jail inmate already facing charges for a jailhouse assault on accused child-killer David L. Trebilcock has been charged again, this time after corrections officers found him with a makeshift ‘shank’.
Sheriff’s deputies said Shaun Andrews, 25, of Brooklyn, was found in the jail on Jan. 21 with a toothbrush that had been sharpened to a point at both ends. Deputies said Andrews was changing housing units, and the officers found the makeshift shank during a search of his property.
On Monday, authorities said Andrews was charged with first-degree promoting prison contraband. He is scheduled for arraignment in Whitestown Court at a later date. Andrews is also scheduled to appear in court on a charge of second-degree assault, after authorities said he attacked Trebilcock inside the jail on the morning of Jan. 4.
Authorities said Andrews and Trebilcock were staying in the same mental health dormitory when Andrews started beating Trebilcock while the other man lay in his bunk. Trebilcock is facing a charge of second-degree murder for stabbing 6-year-old Lauren Belius to death in Sherrill in July.
