Deer hunters charged with baiting and other violations

Five men were charged in the area for hunting violations by state Department of Environmental Conservation police.

They are:

¿ Matthew P. Briggs, 37, of Arkport, Steuben County, charged with possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle and hunter trespass on Jan. 7 in the Town of Steuben. He appeared in Town Court Jan. 7 and was ordered to pay a $325 fine, plus $77.50 surcharge.

¿ Nathan H. Brewster, 31, of Dansville, Livingston County, charged with hunter trespass on Jan. 7 in the Town of Steuben. He appeared in Town Court Jan. 7 and was ordered to pay a $125 fine, plus $75 surcharge.

¿ Michael Mirarchi, 49, of Clinton, charged with failure to report take as required on Nov. 17 in the Town of New Hartford. He appeared in Town Court Jan. 6 and was ordered to pay a $25 fine.

¿ Jerome R. Charbonneau, 52, of Forestport, charged with placing salt sticks on land inhabited by deer and unlawful feeding of whitetail deer on Oct. 29 in the Town of Forestport. He appeared in Town Court Dec. 29 and was ordered to pay a $150 fine, plus $150 surcharge.

¿ Eric W. Sands, 29, of Cleveland, charged with taking big game with artificial light on Oct. 30 in the Town of Vienna. He appeared in Town Court Nov. 22 and was ordered to pay a $500 fine.
