A thief with a dark-colored goatee robbed the Kekis Citgo gas station and convenience store Wednesday night, making off with a handful of cash after threatening the clerk.
No arrests have been made.
The robber burst into the store at about 11 p.m. wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored pants. The hood was up. The man was not wearing a mask. Detective Commander Timothy J. Bates said the thief approached the clerk behind the counter and threatened that he had a gun — though no firearm was ever shown.
"He threatened the clerk, stating he had a gun, however no weapon was displayed," Bates said.
The thief ordered the clerk to open the cash register then get on the floor. The clerk complied, and the thief "took the cash out of the register," Bates said.
The amount stolen has not been released because Kekis Citgo is still taking an audit, the detective said.
The man then fled the store and was last seen running west on West Dominick Street, Bates stated. It is not known if he later got into a vehicle.
Police are reviewing security camera footage from the store. The clerk was the only person in Kekis Citgo at the time of the robbery, and he was not injured, authorities said. He called 9-1-1 at 11:09 p.m.
The thief had a stocky building and is about 5-foot, 7-inches to 5-foot, 9-inches tall. He had a dark-colored mustache and goatee.Anyone with information is asked to call the Detective Division at 339-7715. All calls will be kept confidential.
