Six hurt in collision involving DEC officer
TOWN OF WESTERN — Six people were hospitalized, including an on-duty Department of Environmental Conservation officer, after a two-vehicle collision on Route 46 Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff’s deputies said DEC Officer James A. Kerns was northbound in his patrol car at 1 p.m. when a vehicle driven by Johan K. Larsen III, 16, of Taberg, pulled off of Dopp Hill Road. The two vehicles collided, and deputies said Larsen was ticketed for failure to yield at a stop sign.
Kerns suffered minor injuries, and was treated at Rome Memorial Hospital, authorities said.
Larsen and his four passengers were all treated for non-life threatening injuries at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. His passengers were Rochelle Annarino, 44, Lewis A. Mott, 16, Kyle J. Larsen, 10, all of Taberg, and Dylan E. Crego, 15, of Minoa, deputies stated.
