Jailed in purse snatch at concert

VERONA — A Syracuse woman is accused of stealing another woman’s purse during the Kelly Clarkson concert at the Turning Stone Casino.

Sheriff’s investigators said Marguarette Michel, 39, of Brookline Road, spied the purse underneath a chair in the row in front of her at the Jan. 19 concert. Investigators said Michel grabbed the purse and left the concert, sneaking it off to another part of the casino where she stole cash and credit cards from inside. Then she threw away the purse.

Investigators said Michel planned on gambling the money, but first she returned to her seat at the concert. By then, the victim had noticed her purse was missing and was talking about it to other people. Investigators said this prompted Michel to leave the concert and return home to Syracuse.

Michel was taken into custody the next day on a charge of fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony, troopers said. She was arraigned and sent to county jail on $20,000 cash bail or bond.
