Heart Run/Walk Feb. 4 in Rome Free Academy
The American Heart Association’s the 10th Annual Rome Indoor Run/Walk, sponsored by Rome Memorial Hospital, will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Saturday, Feb. 4 in Rome Free Academy.
It’s also a pre-registration event for the March 2 -3 Heart Run & Walk Weekend in Utica, which has a goal of $1.2 million.
Feb. 4 the opening ceremony begins at 9 a.m.
The event offers different walk courses to attract different types of walkers; for the person that would like a leisurely walk, there is an indoor oval track and for the more avid walker/runner there are challenging courses — all indoors.
There will be friendly activities for the children to enjoy happening at Sydney’s Circle. Sydney was a Rome resident who passed away from heart disease and Sydney’s Circle is a way to honor her memory with a fun filled morning of activities.
Rome Memorial Hospital will once again offer free blood pressure screenings.
Russell Arant, a 35-year-old Rome resident and Director of Surgical Services at Rome Memorial Hospital will tell his story during the Opening Ceremony about how he underwent open heart surgery in October 2010. He is a dedicated husband and father of two. During an annual physical, it was discovered that he suffered from a congenital heart birth defect, which led to his surgery.
