Phyllis Holeck, 80, of Verona, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012, at her home. Born August 5, 1931 in Westernville, NY, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Edna Martin Nessel. Phyllis graduated from Rome Free Academy with the class of 1950. She was united in marriage to Paul Holeck in 1952 in Rome. Mr. Holeck died September 12, 1993. Phyllis was employed at the former Rome State School for many years, retiring as supervisor of food service. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rome. She also belonged to the Daughters of the Nile, Holly Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Ava Dorfman Golden Years Club, and the Christian Women’s Association.
Surviving are two sons, David G. Holeck Sr., Verona, and Robert P. Holeck Sr. and fiance Sheri Miner, Easley, SC; former daughter-in-law, Susan Leskovar; brother-in-law, Dr. William Au, Sherburne, NY; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Au.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Strong and Burns Funeral Home, 401 N. George St. Burial Carmichael Hill Cemetery in the spring. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Thursday, 3 to 7 p.m.
