Ontario and Western Railway program Friday
NEW HARTFORD — The Utica and Mohawk Valley Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Friday in Zion Lutheran Church at the corner of French and Burrstone roads.
Utica and Mohawk Valley Chapter NRHS director and author John Taibi will host a program on the engineer families who worked on the New York, Ontario and Western Railway and the trains they ran on the railroad from its beginnings to when service was shut down in 1957.
The meeting is open to anyone interested in railroads and railroad history.
There will be a business portion of the meeting conducted by President Douglas Preston, with reports on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, the exhibit at the Children’s Museum, the Toy Train Collectors’ Society Train Show, the Amherst Railroad Society’s model train show at the Eastern States Exposition Center in Springfield, Mass., the day bus trip to trace the entire Syracuse and Chenango Valley Railroad, a possible four-day overnight Amtrak trip to Baltimore, Md. and several other activities and projects for the coming months.
