RFA drops first league game

UTICA — The Rome Free Academy boys basketball team suffered its first Tri-Valley League loss of the season on Monday night following a 73-57 setback against hosting Notre Dame.

The Black Knights kept the Jugglers back with a three-point halftime lead in the two teams’ second meeting of the season, but in the third period it all fell apart for Rome as Notre Dame outscored them 22-11, and then tacked off the contest in the fourth by putting in 24 points to claim the win.

Luke Gregory was on fire for the 8-2 overall hosts as he put in five three-point buckets and finished with a team-high of 21 points, while Simon Pitman and Enjay Warmack each tallied 16 points apiece, and Zane Smith scored 15 points.

Lloyd Parkmond collected a game-high 26 points to pace the 8-3 overall Romans, and Aaron Tennant collected 13 points.

RFA defeated the Jugglers 71-63 on their opening night of the year.

Notre Dame’s win puts both teams in a first-place tie atop of the TVL standings with 6-1 records.

RFA will visit 4-3 overall and 4-2 in the league New Hartford on Thursday at 7 p.m.
