Crash hospitalizes woman who hit head

LOWVILLE — A 48-year-old woman was hospitalized with a head injury after a tractor trailer rear-ended her vehicle in the Town of Lowville early Saturday.

Lewis County Sheriff’s deputies said Tammi Dack, 48, was driving on Route 12 at 6:54 a.m. Saturday when she slowed to make a left turn onto Clinton Street. Deputies said the tractor trailer behind her, driven by Mark Swartout, 47, of Boonville, was unable to slow down in time and crashed into the driver’s side of Dack’s vehicle.

Upon impact, authorities said Dack’s head struck the driver’s side window and she suffered a cut and minor bleeding. She was treated at the county hospital.

Deputies said Swartout was ticketed for following too closely.
