NH CPA gets 120 hrs

NEW HARTFORD — A certified public accountant from New Hartford was sentenced to 120 hours of community service for cheating the U.S. Government out of more than $62,000.

Steven Turynowicz, 46, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Norman A. Mordue Nov. 17 to 120 hours of community service, three years probation and was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine for preparing and presenting false tax returns to the IRS, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Authorities said Turynowicz filed at least 13 fraudulent tax returns in 2006 and 2007, for a total tax loss of $62,804.
