Pedestrian hit on Oriskany Blvd.
YORKVILLE — One man was hospitalized after he was hit by a car on Oriskany Boulevard and crashed into the windshield Thursday night.
Fire Chief Joseph Morosco said the man, whose identity was not available, was crossing the four-lane boulevard from south to north in front of the McDonald’s restaurant at about 9 p.m. when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle. The area was well-lit and the rain had stopped, authorities said.
"He was crossing the road" and thought the car was going to stop, Morosco explained. Instead, the car merely swerved to try and avoid him, and "his whole body went into the windshield," the chief said.
The man bounced off the windshield and landed on the pavement. Morosco said the man suffered injuries to his lower extremities and a cut on his forehead. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center. The elderly driver of the vehicle, whose identity was also not available, was taken to the hospital later by a family member for evaluation, the chief said.
