Three hurt on Seneca Turnpike

NEW HARTFORD — Three people were hospitalized this morning after a four-vehicle, domino-effect rear-ending on Seneca Turnpike.

Police said Daniel T. Thompson, 24, of Syracuse, was eastbound near Lewis Construction at 8:30 a.m. when he tried to slow his 1995 Chevy box truck for traffic. But police said the glare from the sun blinded Thompson to the vehicles in front of him, and his truck rear-ended a vehicle driven by Paul J. Haley, 57, of Oneida.

Police said Haley’s vehicle was pushed into the back of a third vehicle, driven by Saruong T. Thach, 45, of Utica, which in turn was pushed into the back of a fourth vehicle, driven by Kyaw L. Oo, 38, of Utica.

Thach and two of her passengers, Omar A. Yerrow and Pretty Htoo, were treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica for head, neck and rib pain, police said. No one else was injured. Thompson was ticketed for following too closely, authorities stated.

Traffic was backed up until all four vehicles could be removed from the roadway. The collision occurred just east of the Applewood and Cherrywood housing communities.
