The Empire State Classic Pop Warner Football Tournament began this weekend with several games taking place throughout the state, including some at Rome Free Academy Stadium on Sunday.
Three first-round games are scheduled at the Stadium, including one that features the Rome Colts.
The Tri-Valley Pop Warner League’s Rome Colts ages 10-11 junior midget squad will battle the Southwestern Colts of Western New York in an AFL Conference bracket first-round game at 3 p.m.
Action at the Stadium begins at 11 a.m. with an AFL Conference ages 8-10 junior peewee first-round match between Norwich and Central New York’s Kirk Park.
The Stadium will also host an NFL Conference ages 10-11 junior midget first-round game pitting Tri-Valley’s Canastota and Mattydale of Central New York at 1 p.m.
The winners of each first round match will advance to the semifinal round scheduled next weekend at sites and times to be determined.
