Jervis Library offers its next Unplug and Play game night on Wednesday starting at an earlier time of 5 p.m. in the library’s wheelchair-accessible auditorium.

Librarian Peter Chien said the earlier start time is to allow for time to play longer games, which had been hard to fit in before the library closing time. Chien runs the monthly gaming sessions, held the first Wednesday evening of each month, but volunteers are needed to help with meetings. "Game nights provide an opportunity to ‘unplug’ from technology by playing tabletop games face-to-face," Chien said. "They offer an opportunity to learn new games or to teach your favorite game to new players," he added. "The Unplug and Play program has a collection of over 70 games for ages 8 and up, and people are also encouraged to bring their own games," said Chien.

The library provides lemonade and popcorn, and participants are invited to bring beverages and light snacks to share.

The library’s collection of games is almost entirely from gifts and donations. Games recently donated to the library’s collection include the classics Battleship and Connect Four, a word-guessing game called Probe, and Titan: The Arena, an earlier version of the game now sold as Colossal Arena.

On display in the library’s Unplug and Play game case is the game Citadels, a card drafting game for two to eight players ages 10 and up, which will be available for play at Wednesday’s meeting. In Citadels, players have a hand of city districts. Each turn, they play the role of one of nine characters, each with unique abilities which aid them in gaining gold, interfering with other players, or building new districts. Play ends when someone plays his or her eighth district. The player whose districts are worth the most points is the winner.
