DWI in high-speed chase, roll-over crash

TOWN OF PARIS — A 26-year-old Chenango County man was charged with driving while intoxicated and multiple traffic counts after leading deputies on a high-speed chase in multiple counties Tuesday night.

Deputy Toby Lindfield said the chase began on Holman City Road when a 1997 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Daniel L. Taylor, of New Berlin, was seen traveling northbound at 68 mph in a 35 mph posted zone, and the driver failed to comply to his patrol car with emergency lights activated.

Taylor led officers from Holman City Road onto East Street in the Town of Bridgewater, where he continued south and crashed on County Route 18 in the Town of Plainfield in Otsego County, Lindfield said.

Taylor failed to stop at the intersection of Route 20 and became airborne, losing control of his vehicle and driving into a ditch on the west shoulder. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn and come to rest on its roof, Lindfield said.

Taylor was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, New Hartford, to be treated for minor injuries and was released. Taylor was also charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer. He was arraigned in Bridgewater Town Court and sent to county jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail.

State Police at Marcy and Richfield Springs, as well as West Winfield and Bridgewater fire departments assisted.
