Oriskany busts into win column in league opener

The Oriskany Redskins scored on their first three possessions on offense and cruised to a 34-17 Class D Central victory over host Morrisville-Eaton for their football first win of the season on Friday night.

Jared Janes got the ground attack going early with a pair of touchdowns runs of 6 and 2 yards and finished the night with 90 yards on 19 carries, while sophomore quarterback Austin Smith threw for 179 yards and had three TDs for the Redskins in their league opener. The Redskins are 1-2 overall.

Janes scored on a 6-yard burst before Smith connected with Ryan Wolanin on a 65-yard TD and then Janes scored again on a 2-yard TD on the first three drives for the visitors.

Smith also added a 1-yard rushing score and also hooked up with Stephen McCorduck for a 40-yard strike.

The Redskins will host Onondaga next Saturday at 2 o’clock for a Class D crossover game.

Senior shines again in defeat

South Lewis senior halfback Dylan Peebles kept churning out big yardage for the Falcons as he rushed for 237 yards on 23 carries and scored two touchdowns, but the Class D school couldn’t slow the Class C host Herkimer Jugglers in a 42-14 defeat,

Peebles, who has 524 yards on the ground with five TDs in three games, scored on runs of 71 and 69 for the Falcons, which fell to 0-3 overall.

Sean Crandall also had success running the ball, as he rushed for 210 yards on nine carries for three TDs and hooked up with Matt Ervin for a 37-yard TD reception and TeJay Chilluffo on a 21-yard TD catch for the 2-1 overall Jugglers.

The Falcons will search for their first win of the season on Friday when they host Class D East foe Beaver River starting at 7 o’clock.

Ilion crushes Adirondack

The Adirondack squad is still in search of their first win of the season as they dropped a 38-6 game against Class C East host Ilion.

Tyler Kline rushed for a team-high 56 yards, while Cody Buhler had 46 and Devin Riegler finished with 42 yards and scored on a 10-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats moved to 0-2 in league play and 0-3 overall.

Ilion ball carrier Jon Treen rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns as the Golden Bombers improved to 3-0 overall and in the league.
