Rome’s Adams holds highest bowling average

Rome’s Rick Adams held the top average in the Rome Bowling Association’s 2009-10 season with a score of 239 for the highest recorded average ever carried in the Rome Association.

Adams is a member of the Professional Bowlers Association and participated in four leagues during the season, including the Franklin Hotel League where he held the high average; as well as the Black River Ale House League, the Singles PBA Experience League and the Denny’s PBA Experience Doubles League.

Rome’s John Crisan followed close in second with a 238 average, and James Grago III also of Rome held a 236 average in third.

Other Top-10 Rome bowlers include Busby Hawkins at 232 in fifth, Greg Puccio in sixth at 229, Doc Narrows placing seventh at 227 and James Grago Jr. tied for eighth at 223 with Oneida’s Jason Burning and Taberg’s Dale Crumb Jr.

YMCA hosting street basketball tournament

The Rome Family YMCA will be holding its annual 3-on-3 Street Basketball Tournament on Aug. 14 on West Dominick Street between Rome Savings Back and Bank of America beginning at 9 a.m.

The tournament costs $60 per team with a roster maximum of four players and is open to those over the age of 8 including boys and girls age divisions from 9-18U, 19-24, 25-over and special needs.

T-Shirts and trophies will be given to the first-place teams in each division.

Team sign-in is held from 8-9 a.m. on Aug. 14, and all players must have a proof of age and their medical waivers available.

Teams must play in the age group of their oldest player, and the age used will be the participant’s age the day of the tournament.

Registration forms are available on the web at www.ymcatrivalley.org or can be picked up at either the Rome or Oneida Family YMCAs.

Upstate Cerebral Palsy hosts 24th golf tourney

Upstate Cerebral Palsy is hosting its 24th Annual Upstate Cerebral Palsy Women’s Golf Classic Tournament on Monday.

The Classic will feature more than 100 businesswomen from the local community and will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Valley View Golf Club in Utica.

Proceeds from the event will benefit autism programs and services at Upstate Cerebral Palsy.
