STITTVILLE — A Mohawk Valley Bluegrass Association coffeehouse concert featuring Rachel Eddy and Kristian Herner will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Stittville Volunteer Fire Department, Main St. The concert will celebrate the June 30th release of their new CD "Chilly Winds," which will be available for purchase.
Admission is $12 for adults or $10 for seniors and members of the MVBGA. Children under 16 admitted free with an adult.
The opening act will be local favorites the Sailcats.
"We are very excited to have two internationally known performers at our coffeehouse" said President Dick Satterly speaking about Eddy and Herner. "It’s very rare to have two musicians with this level of talent appearing at a local coffeehouse come early because we expect a full house!"
Rachel Eddy and Kristian Herner are both "accomplished Old Time Musicians who have performed in Europe and the USA," association officials said. They recently formed a duet specializing in the old-time genre, with a modern touch. Some of the music from their CD can be found at www.myspace.com/racheleddykristianherner.
Eddy, from Morgantown, W. Va., plays fiddle, banjo, guitar and sings. She has played and recorded a CD with the Morgantown Rounder’s and recently toured Europe as part of the band Uncle Earl.
"She is a dynamic old-time singer and banjo player with a strong artistic vision" said Pete Peterson, in the Old Time Herald.
Tim O’Brien, of Hot Rize fame says she "is a fine singer, banjo player, and fiddler totally at home with old time music and makes it her own on both the stage and in the studio." She has released a solo CD, Hand on the Plow. More information and samples of her music can be found at http://www.myspace.com/rachelandkristian
Herner, from Stockholm, Sweden, plays banjo and sings, and is a member of the Rockridge Brothers of Stockholm, billed as Sweden’s leading Old Time Band. He will be touring the USA this summer performing with Eddy as well as the Rockridge Brothers. The Rockridge brothers have released one CD and are in production on their second.
The opening act will be local favorites the Sailcats. The SailCats are back on the local music scene after a brief sabbatical. The Sailcats feature Bill Fahy on guitar, mandolin, and vocals; Conrad Boudreau on mandolin, guitar, and vocals; and John Brett on bass. The SailCats have been performing their unique style of eclectic acoustic music in the Central NY region since 2002 and the gorup has performed at festivals, coffeehouses, concerts and on WAER Radio.
