MARCY — The Small Business Development Center will present "Small Business in Depth," 20-hour course for entrepreneurs and small business owners, starting June 8 in Kunsela Hall at SUNYIT.
Six standalone modules plus available one-on-one counseling make up the course to qualify for a Certificate of Achievement in Entrepreneurship.
The course includes six 8:30 a.m. sessions over a two-week period, beginning June 8 and continuing June 9, 10, 15, 16 and 17. The individual modules cover the essentials of business needed to start and operate a successful enterprise. The first module, Checklist for Business, is a review of the details and myriad requirements of starting a new business. Topics include legal entity, license requirements, occupancy, networking, signs, merchandising and employees. The next module, Accounting & Information Building, will include an overview of accounting requirements and the practical application of accounting in operating a small business. Four follow-on modules complete the series — E-Commerce, Marketing and Government Contracting, Taxes and Financing, and Building the Business Plan. The series concludes with a free private consulting session with an adviser on any business topic.
Each course is taught by a Center adviser or consultant with expertise in the subject. The series is designed to cover all aspects of starting and operating a business; however, each module is a complete unit and can be attended independently.
The fee for an individual module is $20. The entire series is $95, payable at the first session. The series is open to the public. Pre-registration is required. Contact the Small Business Development Center at 792-7547 or e-mail sbdc@sunyit.edu to register and to obtain up-to-date information.
