VVS cranks out 30 runs in baseball rout of Tri-Valley League rival Oneida

ONEIDA — Runs were not hard to come by for Tri-Valley League longtime rivals Vernon-Verona-Sherrill and Oneida as the Red Devils picked up their second win in a row with a 30-11 blowout on Thursday afternoon.

VVS, which improved to 4-1 in the league and 8-1 overall, handed Oneida its first league defeat as Steven Davis drove in a game-high six RBIs and tallied five doubles while teammates Anthony Rocco had a three-run homerun and finished with four RBIs for the road team.

Davis also went a perfect 5 for 5 at the dish with six runs scored as Tyler Mautner drove in three runs and Mitch Iseneker and Jamie Cielinski each drove in two runs.

Jesse Whitmeyer picked the win for the visitors as he allowed one earned run off two hits through 4 1/3 innings of relief work. He also recorded 11 strikeouts to improve to 2-1 on the mound.

The Indians, who used five different pitchers in the loss, dropped to 4-1 in the TVL standings and 7-3 overall.

Nate Mallinder paced the team offensively batting 3 for 4 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI while Mitch DuBois drove in three runs for the hosts.
