RFA girls rally for lacrosse victory
Alexa Sanzone and Rebecca Kieffer each scored a goal with less than a minute remaining to help the Rome Free Academy girls lacrosse team come back from a late deficit and grab a 9-8 triumph over Henninger High on Thursday in Syracuse.
Claire Wigler seemed to have things in hand for Henninger when she picked up her fourth goal with 1:17 remaining to give the hosts a 8-7 lead.
Sanzone soon answered back with an unassisted goal 18 seconds later to tie the score up, and Kieffer fired in the winning goal with eight seconds left on an assist by Megan McCormick to give RFA their second season win.
Erin Thomas also had two goals and two assists to lead the Lady Knights, while Kieffer and Courtney Wheeler finished with two goals apiece. Mariah Puchyr shot in a goal as well, and McCormick finished with a goal and the game-winning assist.
RFA goalkeeper Danielle Famolaro made 14 saves for the 2-5 Lady Black Knights.
