RFA softball team bounces back from loss

The Rome Free Academy softball squad rebounded from Wednesday’s season-opening loss to Fayetteville-Manlius with a 10-6 non-league victory over Proctor High on Friday in Utica.

Halie Schoff captured the win in her first varsity start and gave up seven hits while recording a strikeouts with no walks.

Kaysie Gregory led the Lady Knights attack with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs, and Leigh Shoemaker added two RBIs as well. Allyson Eggan also scored three runs, while Danielle Pauba scored two.

Narrow win for Bulldogs

The Westmoreland boys tennis team picked up a 3-2 win over visiting Morrisville-Eaton for their second straight win.

The Bulldogs swept two doubles matches with the pairings of Ian Dunning and Tyler Witter along with Connor Acee and Ryan Murphy each grabbing wins.

Michael Hartwell scored the lone singles match victory for the Bulldogs.

VVS falls to Whitesboro

The Vernon-Verona-Sherrill girls golf team suffered a 213-227 setback to Whitesboro for its first loss of the season.

Amanda Snizek shot a score of 54 on the par 36 Hidden Valley course to lead the 1-1 overall Lady Red Devils.

Erin Senior and Stephanie Rahn each shot 48s to help grab Whitesboro’s season opening win.

RFA drops third straight

The RFA girls lacrosse team stayed close to Corcoran High of Syracuse throughout but could not seal the win after falling to the Cougars, 6-5, at the Stadium to remain winless on the season.

Kayla Smith led the Lady Knights’ attack with three goals, while Jessica Edwards fired in two goals.

Becca Martinez was the leading scorer for Corcoran with four goals.

RFA goalkeeper Danielle Famolaro made six saves, while Danielle Ashton made 10 saves for Corcoran.
