Two in hospital after collision

Two people were hospitalized after a collision in front of Freedom Plaza on Erie Boulevard West Thursday morning.

Police said Elaine H. Renodin, 50, of 4850 Route 69, was eastbound in the 200 block at 8:50 a.m. when she ran a red light. Police said Renodin was using a hands-free cell phone, and was distracted by the conversation. Renodin’s 2002 Chrysler sedan struck a 1998 Chevy sedan, which was making a left turn out of Freedom Plaza and was driven by Shay E. O’Brien, 36, of Blossvale.

Police said Renodin was treated for back pain at the Oneida Health Care Center, and O’Brien was treated for neck pain at Rome Memorial Hospital. Renodin was also ticketed for running the red light.

Other accidents:

• A 44-year-old driver was ticketed for failure to yield after a collision on Ridge Mills Road Wednesday morning.

Police said Wendy A. Unell, of 7984 Ridge Mills Road, was stopped in her driveway at 9:13 a.m. waiting to pull out into the roadway. When she started to make a left turn in her 2004 Dodge sedan, police said it was struck on the passenger side by a northbound 2001 Chrysler suburban, driven by George D. Crego, 67, of 6600 Bishopp Road. No one was injured.
