BOONVILLE — The Adirondack Community Chorus presents its annual Lenten concert entitled "Without His Cross" at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28 in the First Presbyterian Church, James Street.
The concert is free but monetary and food donations received will be donated to Matthew’s Place, Main Street, which operates a food pantry.
Officials said members of the chorus hope "that this concert will help to bring a spiritual peace to each individual in attendance during this special time of Lent."
This concert consists of "beautiful and moving music of a spiritual and reverent nature which is both meditative and reflective of the Lenten season," the chorus spokesmen said.
The concert begins with "Kyrie, Lord Have Mercy" by Purifoy. It continues with such pieces as "Ave Verum" by Mozart, "When Jesus Wept" by Billings, and includes several pieces by contemporary composers. It concludes with Mendelssohn’s "Peace I Leave With You," continuing the theme of spiritual peace which was evident in the Christmas concert.
Prayers will be interspersed between numbers and will be offered by the following area clergy: Mother Linda Logan, Trinity Episcopal Church, Boonville; Father Sean O’Brien, St.Joseph’s Church, Boonville; Pastor Joseph Feller, First Baptist Church, Boonville; Aggie Walker, elder, Forest Presbyterian Church, Lyons Falls; the Rev. Paul Joslin, retired Lutheran pastor; and Pastor Frank Graichen, Trinity United Church of Christ, Rome.
The concert will be conducted by Peg Nuspliger, and accompanied by Sylvia Fici on piano. Shannon Thompsen will be featured on flute. Andrea Radesi, organist at Zion Episcopal Church in Rome, will accompany the chorus on the Morey pipe organ during the performance of "Ave Verum" and "Peace I Leave With You".
The Presbyterian Church is handicapped accessible. Entry to the church should be made at the rear of the building for those in need of elevator service.
The concert follows "two very successful concerts in late 2009, one with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, and the other the joy-filled Christmas concert, chorus officials said.
