Media campaign leads to capture of fugitive shoplifter

A Utica woman accused of Christmas-time shoplifting was caught by the U.S. Marshals following a media campaign.

Terra L. Bonanza, 29, was wanted by federal law enforcers for using the busy holiday traffic to hide her shoplifting in several New Hartford stores in December, authorities said. On Dec. 23, the Marshals’ Regional Fugitive Task Force broadcast her name and mug shot in the local media seeking her arrest for fourth-degree grand larceny.

The media campaign helped capture Bonanza’s accomplice, Timothy J. Hajdasz Jr., 51, on Jan. 4, authorities said.

Bonanza was arrested in the 700 block of Blandina St. in Utica on Jan. 24 when police responded to reports of a fight.

Bonanza was taken into custody for the fight by Utica police, then was also charged by the Marshals for the larceny.
