Family caregiving training offered

CLINTON — Have you or a loved one received a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or dementia? Not sure what to do next? You are not alone. Often times, family members receive this news and do not know where to turn. The Alzheimer’s Association, Central New York Chapter will assist individuals and family members in navigating their journey with the disease. The chapter will host a Family Caregiver Training from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Nov. 9 at Brookdale Senior Living’s Villas of Sherman Brook, 99 Brookside Road.

The purpose of the training is to provide family members with an overview of the disease and answer questions that may have arisen since the diagnosis. Topics include a medical overview of the disease, communication strategies, tools to address challenging behaviors, activities of daily living and legal and financial planning. Presenters include Julie Darling, Mohawk Valley Regional Director for the Alzheimer’s Association, Central New York Chapter, Harry Scaramella of the Estate Planning Law Center, and New Hartford physician Dr. Scott Brehaut.

Attendance for the training is free and lunch will be provided. Reservations are required right away by calling 617-4025 or 800-272-3900 extension 117.
