Virginia E. (Hurley) Morey

FLOYD — Virginia E. Morey, 84, of Camroden Road, widow of Edison, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2009, at the Siegenthaler Center, New Hartford, after a long illness.

Virginia was born in Canastota on April 19, 1925, a daughter of Paul and Katherine Popple Uhlig. She grew up in the vicinity of Oneida, and received her education in Oneida and Holland Patent. For many years, Mrs. Morey was employed as a therapy aide at Marcy State Hospital, retiring in 1985. She moved from Utica to Floyd in 1974.

On October 31, 1974, Virginia was married to Edison K. Morey, in Barneveld. Mr. Morey, a veteran of WW II and retired construction worker, passed away on October 3, 2001.

She was a member of Malson Jones Post V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary of New York Mills.

Mrs. Morey is survived by four children: Ms. Diane Hurley, Floyd, Michael (Judy) Hurley, Patrick (Debra) Hurley, all of Forestport, Tammy (Barry) Kotary, Floyd; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; five brothers, Robert, NJ, Douglas, Fla., Donald, SC, Frank, Morrisville, NY, Kenneth, Fla.; two sisters, Nina (Ross) Bealieu, Seabring, Fla., Mary (Ronald) Parsons, Oneida. She was predeceased by two brothers, Clyde and Paul.

Her family wishes to express their sincere heart felt thanks and appreciation to Drs. Desai and Butala, Windy and staff at Mohawk Glen of Rome, Kathy Gray and Kathy Frank from Visiting Nurses Association, Mary Rose, of Rome Hospital, and a special thanks to all of the people from Hospice care and the Siegenthaler Center.

Services were held Wednesday at Floyd Cemetery, where Rev. Sean Patrick O’Brien officiated. In keeping with her wishes there were no calling hours.
