WELCOME TO SALEM — Former Roman Mark Hapka, right, playing Nathan Horton, is welcomed to Salem, the television city on the daytime soap opera "Days of Our Lives," by regular characters, Melody (Molly Brooks) and Max (Darin Brooks). Hapka will debut in his new role on the soap in Wednesday's installment of the program, airing at 1 p.m. on NBC.

On Wednesday, former Roman Mark Hapka will be moving to the soap opera city of Salem.

The budding actor will begin his new job, playing the part of Nathan Horton on "Days of Our Lives." The daily soap airs at 1 p.m. on NBC.

Hapka, a 2000 Rome Free Academy graduate and son and step son of Debbie and Gary Villa, 112 N. Jay St., and Robert and Amy Hapka, of Florida, will play the part of the newly arrived young doctor with mysterious ties to some of Salem’s long time residents.

For fans of the show, Nathan is Maggie’s grandson. He has returned to Salem as a first-year intern at University Hospital and will live with Maggie. He is the son of Pete Jannings and Melissa, Mickey and Maggie’s adopted daughter. But, according to soap opera bloggers, some may ask ‘When did Pete and Melissa even have a son?’

Hapka, who lives in California where the soap opera is produced, has been taping for the show since the beginning of June. This is actually his second role on "Days of Our Lives." In 2007 he had a brief role as the rapidly aged Johnny, in a fantasy segment.
