Fritz’s due at post office dedication

WATERVILLE — Fritz’s Polka Band from Verona will take part in the Waterville Post Office dedication on Friday, Jan. 16, which will be renamed in honor of Corporal John Sigsbee, who was killed in Iraq a year ago that day, Jan. 16, 2008. The ceremony, which is open to adults and children, will take place in the auditorium of the Waterville High School, 381 Madison St. at 4:30 p.m.

"The guys in FPB are truly honored to take part in a ceremony such as this for a true American hero and play the ballad, ‘Tribute,’ that my Dad wrote in honor of John," said Fritz Scherz, bandleader of FPB. "John’s mom, Sue, is in our fan club and we’re proud to know such an honorable family. Prior to getting killed in Iraq,John was injured in Iraq and earned a Purple Heart. However, he vowed to return to Iraq, which speaks volumesfor John’s bravery, character and dedication. While the dedication on the 16th will be a somber one, we hope we’re able to contribute in a very positive way and help honor John the way he really deserves."
