School bus, car collide
A stubborn band of lake effect snow caused several traffic accidents today and also closed several schools early. Up to an inch an hour was falling in some locations as the snow line slowly shifted south from the Tug Hill Plateau.
Shortly after noon a school bus was involved in an accident with a car on Airport Road in the Town of Whitestown. Slight personal injuries were reported involving seven people. Oriskany and Stanwix Heights firefighters were responding, along with Central Oneida County and Kunkel ambulances.
In McConnellsvile, a pregnant woman was sent to the hospital after the car in which she was a passenger hit a snowbank on Route 13.
State Police said Samantha Wheeler, 24, of Pleasant Avenue, Sylvan Beach, a friend of the driver, complained of abdominal pain. She is seven-months pregnant, the trooper said. Wheeler was transported by AmCare Ambulance to Oneida City Hospital for evaluation.
The driver Jamie Colzin, 24, of Main Street, Sylvan Beach, was northbound near the Mill Pond Way intersection, when she lost control of her car at about 8:45 a.m., the trooper said. The car then struck a snowbank and came to rest on top of it.
Colzin was not injured.
