Fifty hours of community service ordered

Two men accused of having nearly the same response to an argument with their companions appeared before City Court Judge John C. Gannon on Monday.

• Surafia Norries, 25, of 426 Park Drive Manor II, was sentenced Friday to 50 hours of community service, ordered to pay a $95 surcharge and was granted a one-year conditional discharge on one count of second-degree harassment. A charge of second-degree imprisonment was dismissed. Police said at 9 p.m. April 27, Norries repeatedly grabbed his 22-year-old girlfriend by the shoulders to prevent her from leaving their apartment during an argument. Police said Norries also struck her in the face and head.

• David M. Amici, 21, of 120 W. North St., was released on his own recognizance Monday on charges of second-degree imprisonment and second-degree harassment. His case was adjourned to Sept. 22. Police said at 3:30 a.m. Sept. 6, Amici grabbed a 16-year-old girl by both arms and held her, wrapping his arms around her so that she could not leave her Sam Street apartment. In a statement to police, the victim said Amici was angry because she had left their daughter with her mother.

Also in City Court:

• The case of Alexandra DiMaggio, 20, of 90 Cherrywood Lane, charged with sixth-degree conspiracy, was adjourned in contemplation of dismissal. Deputies said at 9 p.m. March 12, DiMaggio, an employee at The Shoe Dept. on Rome-Taberg Road, worked with other young people to steal several pairs of shoes and boots.
