Workshop highlights groups that aid new farmers
A free workshop for organizations and individuals that serve new and beginning farmers will be held Sept. 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. at an Embassy Suites hotel, 311 Hiawatha Blvd. W., Syracuse.
Representatives from U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency, Cornell Small Farms Program, Farm Ops and SCORE, which is an organization of volunteer business people helping small business people solve problems, will present what their organizations can offer to new and beginning farmers.
“I encourage anyone who works with new and beginning farmers to join us in Syracuse to learn more about what other agencies across the state can offer their producers, as well as share what has been successful for their organization,” said Lynnette Wright, FSA outreach specialist in New York state.
Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue recently signed an agreement with SCORE. The initiative leverages SCORE’s 10,000 existing volunteer mentors and USDA’s expertise and presence in agricultural communities to bring no-cost business mentoring to agricultural entrepreneurs.
Workshop reservations are requested. To sign up, call Wright, (315) 477-6309, or send an email to Lynnette.firstname.lastname@example.org.
