Utica Children’s Museum offers school break activities

UTICA — The Utica Children’s Museum, 311 Main St., is is offering a variety of events over school break.

Sponsored by MVP Healthcare, days will be filled with educational activities, art, science, fitness and fun for all ages.

Everything is included with the regular price of admission: $8, $6 children ages 2-17, and $7 for seniors, students and veterans.

The list of activities for next week:

Tuesday, April 24 

Hooked on Health Day with Cornell Cooperative Extension, Eat Smart NY and New York State Department of Health

11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Ride a Smoothie Bike and taste a smoothie

Meet Oneida Dairy Princess Abigail Wratten

Educational programming, yoga and other fun physical activities

Wednesday, April 25 

Weather Day with WUTR

11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Make Rainbow Crafts and Wind Socks

11:30 a.m.: WUTR meteorologist Rachel Witter will read “Windy Hair Day” and help kids make anemometers

Noon: A paint activity based on the book

Thursday, April 26

Butterflies & Bugs Day

11 a.m.: WUTR’s Grace Fernandez will read “The Hungry Caterpillar.” Live remote with Bug Country Radio

11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Crafts — Tissue Paper Butterflies, Bug Headbands and Egg Carton Caterpillars

1:30-3:30 p.m.: Live bugs from the Utica Zoo

Friday, April 27

Fitness & Flowers Friday

11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Terracotta pot painting and seed planting

11 a.m.: Fitness Farmacy will hold Pound, Speed Agility and Stretch from 11-11:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. and 12:30-1 p.m.

Participate in a collaborative art project that will be installed at the One World Flower Festival

Saturday, April 28

Science Saturday

10 a.m.-noon: Learn beginner coding and make basic circuit boards with the MVCC Future Engineers Club 

11 a.m.: “The Fearless Boy Inventor” book reading and signing by Jermiko Thomas

1:30-3 p.m.: Drone awareness session and demos by Level Up STEM Program

Sunday, April 29

Circus Day

Noon-2 p.m.: Shriner Clowns and balloon animals

Noon-3 p.m.: Circus photo booth - take your own photos/selfies

1-2 p.m.: Magic Show

2:30 p.m.: Hula Hoop Class with Upstate Hoopz

Regular museum hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday: 10 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., and Sunday: noon - 5 p.m.

The museum announced in late 2017 that it would be under the managed services of Kids Oneida. Kids Oneida oversees administration, operations, marketing and development for the Museum.
