Rome Hunger Walk appreciates support
On behalf of the Rome Area Hunger Walk Committee, we would like to express our gratitude to the Rome community for their support of the Hunger Walk on October 21.
This year, the committee is are donating $150 to Bellamy Elementary School’s Food Pantry; $150 to Gansevoort Elementary School’s Blessings in a Backpack program; tithing 10 percent to Church World Service; and dividing the remaining funds among the Bill Gavin Food Pantry at St Joseph’s in Lee Center, the Foothills Rural Community Ministries in Holland Patent, the Mission of the Christ Child at St Peter’s Church, Rome Catholic Charities, the Rome Rescue Mission and the Rome Salvation Army.
While some of these pantries may be associated with a church, all services are provided without regard to race, gender, or religious affiliation.
The committee thanks the churches, businesses, schools, groups, and each individual who donated — but the greatest thanks need to go to the walkers who braved the cold weather; approached their friends, neighbors and strangers to get donations and raised money and awareness for the needy in this area. You are too many to list individually but please know how much we appreciate the fundraising you do.
To date, we have taken in just over $13,000. Thank you again.
