Cinema Capitol, 230 W. Dominick St., will present the animated comedy “Isle of Dogs” Friday through Thursday.

Written, produced and directed by Wes Anderson, the movie tales place in a dystopian near-future Japan. When, by executive decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, 12-year-old Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture. Those contributing the voices of the characters include Bryan Cranston, Jeff Goldblum, Greta Gerwig, Frances McDormand, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton and Anjelica Huston.

Anderson was awarded Best Director for “Isle of Dogs” at the Berlin International Film Festival. The movie was also awarded Best Film at the Titanic International Film Festival.

The Minneapolis Star Tribube writes “With the dark and enchanting animated parable ‘Isle of Dogs,’ Wes Anderson raises his little personal world to new, finely detailed heights.” The Arizona Republic writes “Seriously, if I had a tail, I’d be wagging it.”

The movie runs 101 minutes and is rated PG-13 (for thematic elements and some violent images). Admission is $7, $6 for students and military and $5 for Capitol Friends. Tickets are available at the door and in advance from the Capitol Theatre box office (315-337-6453) and online at www.romecapitol.com.

Show times are Friday and Saturday at 4 and 7 p.m., Sunday at 1 and 4 p.m. and Monday-Thursday at 7 p.m. The Friday 4 and Sunday 1 show times will include captions for the hearing-impaired.
