Sign-ups sought for annual Schoolyard Sugaring Contest
Sign-ups are continuing through Wednesday for the second annual Schoolyard Sugaring Contest, a maple syrup contest for classrooms across the state.
It was announced by the New York State Maple Foundation, which is presenting the contest in partnership with the New York Agriculture in the Classroom (NYAITC) program.
Finished maple syrup in elementary, middle school and high school categories will be scored for taste, clarity and color by a panel of maple experts in May, the foundation said.
The syrup with the highest score in each division wins a $250 prize. A photo contest is also planned.
Among maple syrup contest winners last year were the Stockbridge Valley FFA in Madison County. Overall, 103 classrooms participated. For information, email NYAITC director Katie Carpenter at firstname.lastname@example.org.
