Middle and high school students from across Central New York will join Rome Free Academy students for the third annual Black Knight Battle VEX Robotics Competition on Saturday at RFA, the Rome school district said.

The event will include opening ceremonies at 8:45 a.m. and continue with qualification rounds, skills challenges and elimination rounds to be followed at 3:15 p.m. by awards.

About 30 teams will come together for the day of competition, according to the district announcement. Among other competing schools will be Fulton, Syracuse, Queensbury, Sandy Creek, Clifton Park, Lake George and Granville.

Participants will square off in the VEX Robotics event “In the Zone,” involving scoring on stationary and movable goals as well as moving goals into scoring zones, said the district.

The VEX Robotics competition season culminates each spring, with the top performing teams from local and state competitions vying against each other at a VEX world championship event that includes their peers from over 30 countries, the district added.

The VEX Robotics Design System is a classroom platform used by students to build robots to take part in competitions.
