Rome Free Academy’s varsity and junior varsity basketball teams will take the court to match-up against Whitesboro not only looking to score a home victory, but also to gain additional support for the American Cancer Society on Friday, Feb. 9.

The junior varsity boys’ game take place at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity game following at 7 p.m. at RFA.

The school will hold its third Coaches Vs. Cancer Night, which is a national effort by high school and collegiate coaches to raise awareness and funds to further research, education, advocacy and patient service programs through the American Cancer Society.

“Cancer and other illnesses affect everyone in one way or another,” said Former RFA basketball player Tim Bennett, Class of 2003, one of the event co-organizers.

“This event is about cancer awareness and bringing the
community together,” Bennett added.

The evening will include a 50/50 raffle, as well as hosted change drops at concession stands. Last year’s event raised more than $500 for the American Cancer Society.
