Purchases, social worker on school board agenda
Equipment purchases including new food service ovens and an air filter supply, plus some staffing approvals, are among items being considered by the Board of Education tonight.
The board’s meeting was set for 6:30 p.m. today at Stokes Elementary School, 9095 Turin Road in Lee. On the agenda:
• A resolution calls for awarding a contract for two Rational Combi Ovens for a total of $32,256 to 11400 Inc. of Lancaster, Pa., the low bidder among six companies.
The ovens are for Rome Free Academy, said school district School Nutrition Program Director Chris Whitmore. He said convection ovens that have been used at RFA were the original ones installed when the school was built; the RFA building at Griffiss park opened in 2002. Those ovens have outlived their life span, explained Whitmore, adding that the district has been repairing them over the last few years.
• A contract for air filters is to be awarded to Clark Air Systems of Syracuse for $29,910.
The school district annually awards contracts for filters in different sizes for air handling units at schools, to be changed periodically throughout the year.
• Jeana Cacozza is to be appointed to a new school social worker position at Strough Middle School, effective from Oct. 10 this year through Oct. 9, 2021, at a pro-rated salary of $54,586.
The school board in July had approved creation of another social worker position, among new jobs in various categories.
Among other staffing appointments tonight are several non-instructional positions including teacher assistants, home/school/community liaisons, food service workers, plus others.
The school district overall is “pretty well where we need to be” in staffing for the new school year, said board President Paul Fitzpatrick.
